"Academy of Argentine Tango" is a society founded in 1999, with a seat in Warsaw.
It is the first society of this kind in Poland. Its goal is to present and promote tango and to emphasize its exceptional character by organizing classes, workshops, concerts, festivals, tango shows and milongas. It gathers tango-lovers of different age-groups and different social groups. Owing to the intensive activity of its members, the Academy acquires new tango-funs each year. After having seized Warsaw, a "tango fever" has also affected Wroclaw, Cracow, Lodz, Koszalin, Szczecin, Gdansk and the region of Silesia.
The Academy constantly cooperates and maintains close relations with tango centers in Berlin and Paris and with a Parisian tango magazine "Farolito". The society has already organized tens of courses and workshops, two festivals addressed to the Polish public (2003, 2004) and two international festivals (2005, 2006). At the moment it is preparing the third international edition.
From the very beginning of its existence, the Academy has actively participated in a cultural life of Warsaw. Since 2002 it has taken part in the Latin America's Culture Festival organized by Candela Society. It has organized a performance titled "A Bridge of Tango: Berlin-Cracow-Warsaw", presented at the "Mały Theatre" in Warsaw. The Academy was a co-organizer of the "Tango Night" at the Luksfera Gallery in Warsaw and "Tango Evening" at Esencja Club at the Old Brewery in Poznań. Members of the society took part in such events as: "Parisian Milonga" performance at the National Museum, "Al Tango" concert at the National Philharmonics, and "Tango Argentino Show" at the National Theatre, where the main dancer was Juan Carlos Copes - a dancer and a choreographer of a well-known film "Tango" by Carlos Saura. The Academy retains close contacts with "Tangata Quintet", "Machina del Tango" and "Trio Revirado" orchestras. It actively participates in the events organized under the auspices of the Embassy of Argentina in Warsaw.
